Vikata chakra vigneswarar

Vikata chakra vigneswarar

It comes to from my memory when I said "thoppu karanam". I told some holy places where he did pranks. In kanchi puram itself, he is present with the name "vikata chakra vinayakar" (i.e prank master vigneswarar). He is a "prank master" in kumara kottam where his younger brother is the main deity. If I were to describe what that prank master did, he played a practical joke with his uncle lord Vishnu (who is also called chakra pani – he has a chakra in his hand). On one vinayaka chaturti day, to greet his nephew on his birthday, uncle Vishnu went to kailash with a lot presents. But the lord vigneswarar did not pay attention to all those gifts, and instead pulled away the chakra from lord Vishnu's hands. Can the lord Vishnu stay without the sudarsana chakra? He tried to catch vigneswarar and get back the chakra. Vigneswarar gulped the chakra quickly and kept it in his mouth. Lord Vishnu used his four hands and held his two ears and performed "thoppu karanam" with all his energy. Watching the Lord's crazy acts, vigneswarar burst out in laughter. At that time the chakra that he had hid in his mouth popped out and fell down. Lord Vishnu promptly took it back.

The vigneswarar who performed the prank by keeping lord Vishnu's charka is called the "vikata chakra vinayakar".

In kumara kottam where this form of vigneswarar is present, the younger brother, lord subramaniam is the main deity with the form called brahma sasta. He asked lord brahma the meaning of the primodal sound "om", and when lord brahma could not give out its meaning properly the young lord subramanya put brahma in jail, and started to create the universe himself. I hope you have heard of this story? At that time, the lord subramanya also kept in his hands the japa mala and jug that usually belong to lord brahma. The main deity in kumara kottam looks in this costume. He also got the name brahma sasta because he ordered lord brahma and gave him a punishment. In the temple where the younger brother is keeping in his hands the items that usually dorn the hands of lord brahma, the creator of the universe, our lord vigneswarar snatched away the chakra of lord Vishnu, the protector of the universe, as verily the vikata chakra vinayakar.

The gaja karanakar playfully flaps his ears to sway away the bees and makes us laugh. The lambodarar, because of his huge and sagging belly brings us laughter at first sight. Vikatar does several pranks, practical jokes, and mischiefs and makes us laugh. The three names that appear succeeding the name sumukar, the form with the smiling face are – gajakarnakar, lambodarar, and vikatar.

For cheering up the people in this world who are always struggling caught up in some one difficultly or the other, there is no one better than our lord vigneswarar!
